This program features a presentation by Paula Mohr, given as part of the November 2014 Sustainability Through Historic Salvage Conference in Iowa City. Paula Mohr is an architectural historian with the State Historic Preservation Office and directs Iowa’s Certified Local Government program. In this role, she works with owners of historic properties and more than 100 historic preservation commissions around the state. While in some instances, architectural salvage is the only option available for a building, there are important questions to be asked before that decision is made. Mohr discusses how to explore the feasibility of preserving a building in place. The presentation reviews useful preservation tools (including financial incentives) and strategies available for rehabilitating a building. The Sustainability Through Historic Salvage Conference was sponsored by Friends of Historic Preservation, The University of Iowa, the State Historical Society of Iowa, FEMA, and by Iowa Homeland Security and Emergency Management. Additional presentations from this symposium were recorded and will become available for viewing over the next few weeks.A complete list of available streaming videos can be found at citychannel4.com/video
