The UI Obermann Center for Advanced Studies presents its Obermann Conversations series, which features discussions and presentations by scholars on topics immediately relevant to University of Iowa research projects. In this program, UI Professor Melissa Tully (Journalism & Mass Communication) shares research on 'news media literacy' and its relationship to consumers, publics, and news organizations. She is joined in conversation by Little Village publisher Matthew Steele, one of over 7 billion publishers working today. The two will discuss Tully's research, the rise of self-publishing, and participation, and grapple with the implications for existing news organizations working to maintain a foothold in a shifting media landscape.
